Located in the heart of Los Angeles, Hawkins House of Burgers stands as a beloved destination for fans of classic American fast food done exceptionally well. Specializing in hearty hamburgers and comfort food staples, this casual takeout spot offers a flavorful dive into true burger craftsmanship that’s earned it a passionate local following.
The star of the menu is unquestionably their lineup of beefy burgers, made with Angus beef patties grilled to juicy perfection and served on soft, buttery brioche buns. From the succulent Double Burger featuring two thick patties layered with crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, tangy pickles, red onion, mustard, and mayo, to the towering Triple Burger that challenges even the heartiest appetites, Hawkins delivers generous portion sizes that don’t compromise on fresh, clean flavors. The Fat Burger variants—whether standard or loaded with everything including cheese and crispy onion rings—exude indulgence and a satisfying crunch that’s impossible to resist.
For the adventurous palate, the Pastrami Burger and the Hawkins Phat Burger offer innovative flavor profiles that spice up the traditional burger experience. Those who crave sides aren’t left wanting either; the chili cheese fries and perfectly crispy French fries and onion rings provide the ideal salty, savory companions to their signature burgers.
Breakfast lovers will appreciate their hearty offerings such as the Chicken Wing Breakfast or the Salmon Croquette Breakfast, each served with your choice of potatoes or grits, eggs, and toast alongside fresh orange juice—a satisfying way to start any day.
The ambiance at Hawkins House of Burgers is authentic and unpretentious, with a friendly vibe that encourages quick bites and casual meals. While parking may be a bit limited, the genuine quality and comforting flavors more than compensate, making it a worthwhile stop whether you’re grabbing takeout or lingering for a quick lunch.
Customers have shared mixed but insightful experiences that paint a vivid picture of this burger joint’s character. Some, like Dennis Brumett Jr, happily proclaim it “the best burger in LA, hands down,” praising the consistently fresh patties and noting delectable alternatives like the fried fish. Another fan, Don Derb Jr, raves over the “off the chain” pastrami burger, calling it a must-try that left a lasting impression. Meanwhile, Bee’s Adventures highlights the generous portions of the Whipper burger with its perfectly spiced sausage, alongside the simple yet satisfying fries that complement every meal. On the other hand, Viri Santizo points out that prices might feel a bit steep on the first visit, and parking challenges can be real for some guests, giving a full, honest perspective for newcomers.
Whether you’re a dedicated burger lover or simply in search of a flavorful, no-frills American fast-food experience, Hawkins House of Burgers offers a menu that’s rich in character and authenticity. Pair your meal with the refreshing, nostalgic taste of their Strawberry Lemonade or classic Red Kool Aid to complete your visit to this historical LA eatery.
I paid almost $30 for two burgers, one order of fries and one lemonade; I find that preposterous-. It was my first time ordering there and I seriously feel it was overpriced. The burger itself was ok, and I did enjoy the size of the patty but I don't believe I'll be returning. Parking is very limited and sometimes they do open the side parking lot so good luck.
Best burger in LA hands down. Considered moving to Nickerson just so I could walk here everyday but my wife talked me out of it. Luckily it’s on my way home if I decide to take the scenic route. If you can call in your order. Always fresh & other than the burgers I’ve gotten the fried fish which also phenomenal.
I've always wanted to go here people tell me about it says the bomb it's good it's the bes. I had the pastrami burger and it was off the chain best burger I've had in a long long time! I will be back to try more food but that burger omg that ish was . Bombay! Must go eat there. You want be sorry.
The food was delicious! The reviews aren’t lying, the burgers are good . We got the Whipper burger, it’s huge. It’s big enough to honestly feed 2 people. The whipper burger’s sausage is fire . It has the perfect amount of spice to give the burger a bit of a kick! The fries are soooo good, it doesn’t have that much seasoning but still good regardless. The pastrami sandwich is good too, i wish it had more seasoning though. 4/5 stars. BE AWARE OF THE AREA TOO‼ Stay alert. Regardless, it’s a 4/5. I would 100% come back
I ordered through Ubereats so cannot speak on Customer Service or location. Food is delicious. You would be doing yourself a disservice to ignore the refreshing Strawberry lemonade. Burgers are fresh and the lettuce gives a complimentary crispness. Fries are delish. Yogi approved! My food came hot and ready. I was privileged to enjoy this historical eatery! Well done!
My white ass had absolutely no business being on this side of town, pulling in from Vegas like I was lost on my way to an Eagles tailgate. I’m pretty sure the whole hood thought I was an undercover cop because my haircut was way too fire for the ZIP code I was standing in. But listen… I would die for this burger. Easily one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. Customer service? Elite. Flavor? Spiritual experience. And yeah, I waited 37 minutes — did I care? Hell no. I’d wait two hours and write a Yelp review from the afterlife if I had to. This burger changed my taxes.
